The violet green swallow is a little aerodynamic gem. In dim light the bird’s coloring is muted, but when the sun strikes the iridescent feathers,

brilliant shades of emerald green, violet blue and purple glow from the bird’s body as it swoops and dives after its meal of flying insects.

In this little portrait, the warm colors in the background bring out the bird’s beautiful coloring. A hint of purple can be seen on its rump.
